DYCP award

From March 22 to March 23, I undertook a period of research with support using public funding by Arts Council England. The Developing your Creative Practice award allowed me to work with theatre makers, dramaturgs, dancers and technicians to develop my skills in working with small-scale audiences.

As my subject matter was the distanced relationship with my daughter I quickly realised the telephone as a potent device I could use as a means of evoking communication with small audiences. It replicated an area of performer/audience interdependency, comparing the intimacy of familial connection with that of the exchange and negotiation of meaning that takes place within performance.

A future piece will hopefully be developed from ideas devised and trialled during five scratch performances from this last year.
